Mannlichen is must see destination for all those visiting Switzerland. Situated on the ridge between the Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen Valleys, the majestic mountain of Mannlichen is situated at an altitude of 1000m above Wengen and proposes vintage points with epic landscape images. Europe’s longest cable car and world’s third longest cable car is present here connecting Grindelwald Grund to Männlichen. There is another cable car opposite it but from Wengen. The total area of Mannlichen is about 2, 2227 meters and offers breathtaking views of Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Reaching the destination through the route of Bernese Oberland is an experience in itself.
The destination is the starting point of various hiking and walking trails. The walk between its top station and the crown is just 10 minutes and is touted as extremely pleasing. At its southern end are Tschuggen (2520m) and Lauberhorn (2472m), with the ‘big three’ looming behind. The point showcases the contrast of the two valleys in the most marvelous manner. The broad expanse of the Grindelwand valley in the left is pitted against the glacier-carved, U-shaped Lauterbrunnen Valley to the right. In its north, is the beautiful stretch of Thunersee.
Männlichen offers cozy and comfortable accommodations. To attract the skiers in winter, there are plenty of snow bars. Its broad cruising terrain offers excellent skiing surface under the shadows of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. For others, the high speed 45 minute sled run down to Holenstein through steep bumps and hairpin bends offers a thrilling experience. To keep the children engaged in fun, there is a 90 minute Felixweg hike from Männlichen to Holenstein. The children can not only enjoy the alpine flora and fauna, but they can have fun spotting marmots or riding the flying fox or relish in the barbeque areas. Utimately, the whole family can have something to enjoy.
